About VINS

VINS — Volunteers in Northampton Schools — is a community organization that recruits, vets, and places adult volunteers in Northampton's public schools. Our mission is to supplement and enrich the curriculum at the direction of the professional staff, working alongside teachers and school personnel to give every student more support in the classroom. Volunteers come from every corner of the city: retired teachers and physicians, parents, university faculty, social workers, working professionals, and pre-service teachers preparing to enter the field. They commit on schedules that fit their lives — weekly, biweekly, or occasionally for a single field trip or school performance — and serve in placements that match their skills and interests, from math tutoring and reading buddies to arts and crafts, science exploration, yoga and mindfulness, gardening and cooking, and cultural presentations. Every volunteer completes a CORI background check before stepping into a classroom. Once cleared, we work with teachers and school staff to match the right person with the right role. To get involved — whether you want to volunteer, request a volunteer for your classroom, or just have questions — reach us at [email protected] or (917) 530-4911. We're located at 498 Ryan Road, Florence, MA 01062.
